Transforming Challenges into Triumphs: My Journey from Overwhelmed to Empowered<\/h1>\n

It’s been a bit since you’ve heard from me. And, likely like you, it’s because I’ve been feeling my way through the last 6 months, resetting, re-prioritizing, and realigning. From supporting workplace teams in setting healthy boundaries during remote culture to leading daily Mindful Leadership workshops to holding space and advocating for support for clients who felt unheard with the Black Lives Matter movement to processing my own privilege… life has been intense.<\/p>\n

And when things get intense, I retreat into as much silence as I can to take a really hard look at where I’m spending my time and energy. From that place, I can truly determine if I’m in alignment with my values and purpose in life. I’ve been practicing and evolving this internal retreat for nearly 5 years now. A combination of meditation, reflection, movement, time in nature, writing, and making space to just be. This is the go-to exercise I do EVERY SINGLE TIME I feel overwhelmed<\/a><\/span>. And I swear to you, it always works! Thankfully from that space, my greatest creations are born.<\/p>\n

So after a couple of weeks of feeling out of sync with my well-being, I went into that deep reflective mode to understand how I could manage my energy from a place of personal alignment. Once I could clearly see the patterns of what was serving me and what wasn’t, I re-prioritized with a sense of grace, intention and power.<\/p>\n

Since you last heard from me here, we have:<\/p>\n

1. <\/strong>Launched a NEW website<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a>–\u00a0 I had been feeling so weighed down by the fact that my old website had “Millennial Engagement Expert” plastered all over it. The truth is, I was never <\/em>passionate about millennials in the workplace. It just happened to be what I was known for (from my last job) and companies were hiring me to help them narrow their generational divide. The question, “What do I do with these millennials?” helped me open the door to ask, “Well, what do you do with all the people who work here to create a thriving culture?” And while I had all the research and experience to fully embrace my “generational expert” title, it’s time to finally shed other people’s expectations of me to fully stand in my expectations of myself! What I’m really here to talk about is our values – as humans and teams. And how those unique and shared values create the culture around us. After nearly a year of overhaul, we’re finally able to share that message on our new website<\/a>!<\/p>\n

2. Written my FIRST MANUSCRIPT<\/strong> – This one just fills me up with so much pleasure and pride! After enrolling in a 9-week “Birth Your Book” cohort program that was linked to spirituality and writing from a place of source, I just KNEW this was exactly what I was meant to prioritize during this time. While I have a ways to go with the editing and publishing process, I can’t wait to share “Permission to Be Human: How to Create a Values-Driven Culture and Thriving Business” (working title) with the world. Each day I sat down to write felt like a gift I was finally giving to myself. To actually make the time to say, THIS MATTERS so I’m going to MAKE IT HAPPEN! I had been saying that to myself for years and this pandemic created an opening for me to go deeper into my passion work. Even if just one person reads it and makes a connection, it already feels like a great success.<\/p>\n

3. Launched James’ NEW BUSINESS<\/strong>\u00a0–\u00a0If you’ve ever been to one of our workshops, then you’ve likely tasted my partners’ delicious food. James is a master with flavors and the king of health and well-being.\u00a0After we stopped serving junk food at our in-person events and started to replace it with his nuts, so many people kept asking where they were from and how they could buy some. What at first seemed like a nice compliment quickly became a clear sign from the universe as he needed to see what was possible through an official business.\u00a0He finally answered that call and launched “My Cousin’s Nuts<\/a>“! Playfully named after James’ cousin kept telling everyone about how great is cousin’s nuts were. So far the response has been phenomenal and we can’t wait to see where it goes!<\/p>\n

4. Reinvented our signature 3-day online Company VALUES RETREAT <\/strong>– If you ever told me that I would have 3 days and 60 participants to lead through knowing, owning, and living their values in the workplace, I would have scratched my head for a looooong time. So much of my work is based on feeling out the energy of the room, creating psychological safety, and moving at a pace that meets people where they are. And when companies want to go through the process of redefining their values and then operationalizing them into their culture, it takes all of those things and then some. We had the great privilege of being trusted and challenged to make this happen in July. It was hands down the most thoughtful and well-executed retreat I’ve ever facilitated! To this day, we are still getting emails from participants saying what a gift it was and how much hope they now have for creating real connection and untied culture during this remote lifestyle. Now this means I can literally do this work with teams all over the world without skipping a beat!\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

5. Gone deeper into birthing VALUES-BASED MINDFULNESS<\/strong> – Right before the pandemic, I filed for a trademark on “Values-Based Mindfulness” because you can’t actually live your values if you’re not mindful. And guess what? No one has ever applied values work through that lens. So when I was trying to figure out my role in how I could serve during this time, I immediately thought about guiding people in how to “Ground in their Values During Times of Uncertainty” through Values-Based Mindfulness! I’ve done this now with teams all over the country and even have a bi-weekly community workshop for those who have gone through the Knowing + Living Their Values<\/a> process. And guess what? Nearly 8,000 students are now enrolled from all over the world in that course through Insight Timer!<\/p>\n

NONE of this would have happened if I kept taking all the phone calls and zoom happy hour invitations that I received. None of this would have happened if I decided to keep moving at the pace that I was pre-pandemic. None of this could have happened if I didn’t go back to several of my clients to reset around our scope of work and expectations with one another. None of this would have happened if I made myself smaller to make other people comfortable. None of this would have happened if I didn’t keep picking myself back up every time I felt completely undone and unwell.<\/p>\n

It took feeling completely upside down to finally start to realize what I had the power to do to turn right side up again! And that’s not to say I won’t get sideways and fully upside down again. It’s that I’ve committed to recognizing when it happens and resetting with more grace each time.<\/p>\n
