As we\u2019re making our 5 day cross-country trip to nestle in the mountains of Idaho for 6 months, we are ALWAYS in search for the best audiobooks to listen to on the road trip. \ud83c\udfa7One that we\u2019ve listened to like clockwork every single time is don Miguel Ruiz’s ‘The 4 Agreements<\/a>‘.<\/p>\n

I first learned of The 4 Agreements when it was a stocking stuffer book for me in college. Looking back, I had no idea how much this one soul and his profound teachings would be imprinted in my life forever.<\/p>\n

On a personal note, James and I have had the humbling experience of apprenticing and traveling to Teotihuac\u00e1n, Mexico with don Miguel Ruiz and his sons, Miguel Jr., and Jose.<\/p>\n

Over time, like many good concepts, I forgot about the book completely. I hyper-focused on my career and lost that type of reflection and connection with myself.<\/p>\n

Then after a significant internal evolution, I came across a retreat where don Miguel and his sons were the main attraction. Something inside me and my partner said, \u201cYes! Let\u2019s do this!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

During the \u2018Gathering of the Shamans\u2019 in Sedona, we both fell in love with the Ruiz family. Their presence, their energy, and the unconditional love that runs through their veins are given to every living being around them. After hearing them all speak and soaking in their good vibrations, we just knew there was more wisdom to gain.<\/p>\n

Thankfully we learned of their vision quest journey in Mexico to live our lives with Gratitude, Love, Loyalty, and Justice, beginning with ourselves and continuing with our loved ones.<\/p>\n

This life-changing experience helped us return to our innate wisdom and live our lives based on Truth. The Ruiz family guided us to understand that the agreements we make are ultimately about seeing our whole reality through the eyes of Truth.<\/p>\n

The result of practicing these agreements helped us move into acceptance of ourselves and everybody else just as they are. And while we\u2019re still on a daily journey to live this way, the reward for doing that work is eternal happiness.<\/p>\n

And for me, the greatest happiness is sharing life-altering lessons with others who are curious and open to receiving.<\/p>\n

  1. \ud83e\uddd1\u200d\u2696\ufe0f Every time you judge someone, you\u2019re punishing them for agreements they never made.<\/strong> People prefer to judge other people\u2019s homes instead of changing their own. Once you realize that you can\u2019t control anyone else, then you\u2019re free from the war.<\/li>\n
  2. \ud83e\udd1d No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.<\/strong> If you don\u2019t judge yourself, no one else can judge you.<\/li>\n
  3. \u2764\ufe0f\u200d\ud83e\ude79 When someone hurts you, you begin to use those thoughts to hurt yourself.<\/strong> You are constantly punishing yourself for not being perfect in the eyes of others.<\/li>\n
  4. \ud83d\udcaa Guilt is punishing yourself for something you want to do.<\/strong> Redemption is when you forgive yourself and change. It\u2019s normal to feel pain, but you don\u2019t have to hold onto it.<\/li>\n
  5. \ud83d\udcd5You are only responsible for your own story.<\/strong> Let yourself go of the burden of thinking otherwise.<\/li>\n
  6. \ud83d\udd4a\ufe0f To forgive is to accept.<\/strong> A belief only exists for as long as you say yes to it. Forgive yourself for ever saying yes to it in the first place. Healing is when the past doesn\u2019t corrupt the present.<\/li>\n
  7. \ud83d\udc8d Become the love of your own life \u2013 marry yourself!<\/strong> If you can\u2019t stand being alone by yourself then the relationship between mind and heart is off. Connect those two and fall in love with your perfect imperfection! Then you get to feel at home wherever you are because your body is your one true home.<\/li>\n
  8. \u2728 Truth is a feeling \u2013 a vibration.<\/strong> It\u2019s not a war between love and hate, it\u2019s a war between truth and lies. Get clear on the difference and live in the truth.<\/li>\n
  9. \ud83c\udf2c\ufe0f A moment of clarity followed by action becomes a pivotal moment in our lives.<\/strong> A moment of clarity without action just passes in the wind. Choose wisely.<\/li>\n
  10. \ud83d\udc9eLove is an energy that allows us to create a bond.<\/strong> Love is contagious. There\u2019s no retiring from being love. So get over your fears and deliver love.<\/li>\n

By opening your heart to pure love, you help others to see that possibility for themselves. A true healer is someone who heals themselves of their own lies.
