40 Life Lessons from 40 Years: Wisdom and Reflections on Growth and Happiness<\/h1>\n

As I prepare to celebrate my 40th birthday, I have been tapping into my value of Reflection to ponder the wisdom I have gained over the years. And boy, has it been a lot. At times, it felt overwhelming; other times, it felt joyous.<\/p>\n

Life is full of highs and lows. I\u2019ve learned how you respond to those highs and lows that create your reality. You are here to grow and evolve. That is what humans do, and we have been doing it for a long time.<\/p>\n

Here are 40 pieces of wisdom I\u2019ve gained over the last 40 years in no particular order that I reflected on for my 40th birthday:<\/h3>\n
    \n
  1. The longest journey you’ll ever go on is from your head to your heart.<\/li>\n
  2. Things are a lot scarier in your mind than in reality. You waste a lot of time and energy worrying about things that will never happen.<\/li>\n
  3. You can only control your thoughts and how you choose to respond to circumstances.<\/li>\n
  4. Anxiety is excitement without breath<\/a>.<\/li>\n
  5. You can overcome a lot more than you think.
    \n\"four<\/li>\n
  6. Be impeccable with your word. What you say, what you do, and how you think.<\/li>\n
  7. Don’t take things personally. Look for your reflection in others.<\/li>\n
  8. Don’t make assumptions. Be curious with your questions.<\/li>\n
  9. Always do your best. Knowing your best will vary each day.<\/li>\n
  10. Listen and take action on the messages you receive from your body and intuition. You will never regret a decision you make from the heart.

  11. How you think and how you feel create your reality. Focus on what you want, not on what you don’t want.<\/li>\n
  12. When you are feeling stuck, take a walk outside in nature<\/a>.<\/li>\n
  13. Your issues are stored in your tissues. Movement equals freedom. Free your body to free your mind.<\/li>\n
  14. Your body speaks to you in whispers before it has to scream.<\/li>\n
  15. A good night’s sleep is the best medicine.
    \n\"sleeping<\/li>\n
  16. Take care of your body temple. Eat real food without chemicals<\/a>. Stay hydrated with clean water.<\/li>\n
  17. Start living your dream today. Don\u2019t wait until \u201cretirement\u201d. Create the life you want with the person you love the most.<\/li>\n
  18. Do what makes you feel good. Activating your values.<\/li>\n
  19. Live your values, not someone else’s.<\/li>\n
  20. People will project their fears on you. You get to choose what you do with them.
    \n\"minnows\"<\/li>\n
  21. What upsets you about people often reflects what upsets you about yourself and shows you opportunities to grow.<\/li>\n
  22. You get to set your expectations for yourself. Not anyone else. The only person’s opinion that matters is your own.<\/li>\n
  23. Surround yourself with people who share your values<\/a>.<\/li>\n
  24. To change the world, you have to change your own world first.<\/li>\n
  25. You can’t change other people, but can show them a new possibility.
    \n\"you<\/li>\n
  26. Don’t blame others or circumstances for your situation. Empower yourself to make a new choice.<\/li>\n
  27. What you resist persists. Surrender.<\/li>\n
  28. Be patient. Take things one step at a time without judgment of pace.<\/li>\n
  29. Where your focus goes, energy flows.<\/li>\n
  30. The only constant in the world is change.<\/li>\n
  31. Life is hard. Choose your hard.
    \n\"money<\/li>\n
  32. Money doesn’t solve all your problems. Things won’t make you happy sustainably.<\/li>\n
  33. Money comes in many forms – don\u2019t get fixated on a paycheck as the only way to thrive financially.<\/li>\n
  34. Automate your savings each month and dollar cost average. Start as young as possible.<\/li>\n
  35. You are your own best doctor and guru.

  36. Protect your energy – don’t watch the news or commercials.<\/li>\n
  37. You must unlearn old habits and ways of thinking (that don\u2019t serve you) that were instilled in you by the fears of others.<\/li>\n
  38. The universe will keep teaching you the same lesson until you get it.<\/li>\n
  39. Choose love and abundance over fear and scarcity.<\/li>\n
  40. Be here now. That is the only place you ever need to be.

    I am grateful for all this wisdom I have and will continue to gain on this 40th birthday and beyond. I am grateful for my teachers and mentors who have helped instill this wisdom in me. And I am grateful that I get to share this with you.<\/p>\n
