When everyone seems justified to blame all their problems on the government and then judge whoever isn\u2019t fully aligned with their values, labeling them and casting them out or pulling them closer accordingly.<\/p>\n<p>Growing up in a very politically-minded family, I was definitely an outsider. I had no interest in getting into heated debates about who was \u201c<em>right<\/em>\u201d or just adding my voice to venting sessions about who was\u00a0<em>oh so very wrong.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>While staying informed is important, it\u2019s just as crucial to set political boundaries that protect your mental and emotional well-being. This isn\u2019t about avoiding uncomfortable conversations\u2014it\u2019s about prioritizing your self-care and peace of mind overtaking the low-vibration bait.<\/p>\n<p>During the pandemic, I found myself overwhelmed by all the political noise. My blood would boil as I got sucked into news stories, debates on social media, and discussions at social gatherings. He says the news is designed to get an emotional reaction from you, like a movie. With flashing lights, intense tones, and dramatic visuals. And if you\u2019re not mindful, you end up consuming all that added stress and energy, too.<\/p>\n<p>So, how do you avoid this?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Create an energetic boundary by choosing <em>how<\/em> and <em>when<\/em> you\u2019ll consume news.<\/strong> Pause and remind yourself that you don\u2019t have to absorb all that energy. Just because there\u2019s drama being portrayed doesn\u2019t mean you need to let it penetrate your peace.<\/p>\n<p>Be intentional\u2014maybe it\u2019s reading (not watching &#8211; therefore eliminating the emotional production) one trusted outlet in the middle of the day when you\u2019re ready for it, instead of scrolling first thing in the morning.<\/p>\n<p>Remember, you have more control than you think!<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udcc8Studies show that <em>56% of Americans<\/em> report feeling stressed from watching the news, so having these boundaries in place is crucial for your mental health.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4><strong>2. \u26d4Set Clear Boundaries with News and Politics Conversations<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>We all know how it goes\u2014politics comes up at dinner, during holiday gatherings, or even in casual conversations with friends. And while staying informed is important, you don\u2019t have to engage every time it comes up. In fact, sometimes, the best way to protect your peace is to set a boundary and gently steer the conversation away from politics.<\/p>\n<p>You can say something like, \u201cMy intention in coming to dinner was to be more connected with you all. And while I understand why it can feel important to talk about politics with everything going on in the world right now, I\u2019d rather us focus on conversations that bring us together so we can leave here feeling more connected and not further apart. Cool?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s simple, it\u2019s kind, and most importantly, it\u2019s a way to maintain your peace. This isn\u2019t about avoiding difficult topics\u2014it\u2019s about deciding when and where it\u2019s a good use of your energy to engage.<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udcc8According to the Pew Research Center, <em>53% of Americans<\/em> find political discussions stressful. So, don\u2019t hesitate to protect your mental well-being by creating space for conversations that don\u2019t drain your energy.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4><strong>3. \ud83d\udc63Know When to Walk Away<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>If the conversation or the news gets too heated, removing yourself from the situation is okay.
