How Muscle Testing Helped Me Trust My Intuition (and Save a Baby Bird)<\/h1>\n

Sometimes, doing nothing feels harder than doing something, especially when your intuition is telling you to pause and your head is questioning that decision.<\/p>\n

That was the case for me this week with a baby bird, a coyote, and a choice I\u2019ll never forget.<\/p>\n

One of the biggest shifts I have experienced since leaving the concrete jungle of Baltimore City for the Bitterroot Mountains of Idaho is my connection with my core value<\/a> of Unity with Nature.<\/p>\n

I have always been an animal lover throughout my life, and enjoyed my interactions with so many sentient beings.<\/p>\n

In the city, it mainly meant seeing the squirrels and birds at the park and people walking their dogs.<\/p>\n

In the mountains, it’s a totally different experience.<\/p>\n

We have gophers, chipmunks, coyotes, deer, elk, antelope, cows, wolves, cougars, bears, snakes, rabbits, foxes, and countless species of birds.<\/p>\n

And we have made so many friends with them.<\/p>\n

\ud83d\udc3f\ufe0f Meet Our Mountain Neighbors<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\nPatsy the pack rat<\/p>\n

It is such a beautiful experience to interact with them daily. From watching Becky eat our horses’ alfalfa that has fallen in the barn, to how Philip loves eating the leftover kiwi I toss him, and watching Carl go on his daily adventures.<\/p>\n

\n

\ud83e\udd2f When Instincts Clash With Empathy<\/strong><\/h3>\n

However, being so connected with nature also reminds you that she can be brutal\u2026<\/p>\n

Every morning, MaryBeth and I meditate with our horses in their paddock.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

It’s a beautiful experience that we also share with our DailySpark<\/a> subscribers through our livestreams.<\/h5>\n

During our meditation, various animals and birds will join us. MaryBeth even had a chipmunk sit on her foot.<\/p>\n

This week, I noticed a robin chasing a chipmunk out of a tree. I could hear some babies up above, so I figured that Momma bird was protecting her nest.<\/p>\n

That happened for a couple of days, and then yesterday, I noticed the Momma bird on the ground. I didn\u2019t think anything of it at first, but then I saw her baby bird had fallen out of the nest, which we named Randy. The Momma was there, taking care of it, bringing it food, but we started to wonder\u2026<\/p>\n

What should we do?<\/p>\n

The mental chatter begins\u2026<\/p>\n

Should we help it? Well, the Momma is still there taking care of it\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n

But it seems like it could use some help. Well, if we try to help, the Momma might stop caring for it\u2026.<\/em><\/p>\n

It was a tough situation.<\/p>\n

We so wanted to help and \u201cdo the right thing,\u201d but weren\u2019t sure what to do. I felt called to help a bird, but wanted to make sure I wasn\u2019t projecting my fear or control.<\/p>\n

So I decided to muscle test it.<\/p>\n

Muscle testing taps into the subconscious nervous system, which picks up on subtle cues and inner knowing that you may not consciously recognize. It is something that I first learned during my Holistic Lifestyle Certification and also when I became certified as an Emotion Code Practitioner.<\/a><\/p>\n

It is how I help identify and release trapped emotions<\/a> that are causing stress and discomfort.<\/h5>\n

It’s quite remarkable. My clients are amazed when I use it to help them release trapped emotions.<\/p>\n

So when I muscled tested and asked, \u201cIs taking this bird inside tonight in its highest and greatest good?\u201d I got a clear \u2018no.\u2019 So did MaryBeth. Our body\u2019s internal intelligence was saying, \u2018Not now.\u2019<\/p>\n

\n

\ud83d\udd4a\ufe0f The Choice to Surrender<\/strong><\/h3>\n

So we choose to let Randy the robin be and trusted his Momma to take care of him.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

We talked to a dear friend who has saved many fallen and injured birds, and she said that she would come to get him if he needed help. And mentioned that he might get eaten if left out on the ground overnight\u2026<\/p>\n

It was, therefore, a true test of trusting our intuition in the face of fear.<\/p>\n

\n

\ud83d\ude1f Was It the Right Call?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

So, we surrendered and went to bed that night, only to be woken up by a coyote howling and barking from what sounded like the area where Randy was\u2026<\/p>\n

We were both heartbroken and the mind chatter started again\u2026<\/p>\n

Is Randy going to be okay?<\/em><\/p>\n

Did we make the wrong choice?<\/p>\n

Why didn\u2019t we just save him and bring him inside?<\/p>\n

I can\u2019t believe we made the wrong choice!<\/p>\n

The feelings of guilt and self-judgment were strong.<\/p>\n

\n

\ud83d\ude05 From Heartache to Relief<\/strong><\/h3>\n

So the next morning, we went down to meditate.<\/p>\n

I notice the Momma bird hanging out, but don\u2019t see Randy.<\/p>\n

My heart starts to drop.<\/p>\n

MaryBeth finds a pile of feathers, and our hearts drop even more\u2026<\/p>\n

We start to judge ourselves even more.<\/p>\n

Why didn\u2019t we just take him in last night?<\/em><\/p>\n

And just when we thought all hope was gone, I see Randy camouflaged in some pine needles, completely fine with Momma close by, still watching over him.<\/p>\n

We were so relieved.<\/p>\n

\n

\ud83d\udc9b The Longest Journey: Head to Heart<\/strong><\/h3>\n

I share this story because it’s easy not to trust your intuition or your \u201cgut.\u201d<\/p>\n

It is easy to fall into spirals of self-judgment.<\/p>\n

Like when you…<\/p>\n

\u2026say yes to something you don\u2019t want to do, then resent yourself for not speaking up.<\/p>\n

\u2026sense something is off in a relationship or job, but brush it aside to \u201ckeep the peace.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2026feel it\u2019s time to leave, but stay because you\u2019re afraid of what others will think.<\/p>\n

\u2026ignore the nudge to rest, then burn out because you kept pushing.<\/p>\n

\u2026delay making a decision, even though deep down you already know the answer.<\/p>\n

However, I have learned that when I make a choice based on my intuition, gut feeling, or heart, I never regret it.<\/p>\n

It is an act of trust and surrender.<\/p>\n

And as I have learned before, the longest journey you will ever go on is from your head to your heart.<\/p>\n

But it is so easy not to trust it. And it\u2019s easy for built-up emotions and stories from the past to make you think you can\u2019t trust yourself. So you second-guess and backpeddle, hoping to do the \u201cright thing\u201d instead of trusting what you\u2019re feeling is the right thing.<\/p>\n
