While all the other horses in his herd are getting their feet trimmed with (relative) ease and grace, he&#8217;s still having immense difficulty.<\/p>\n<p>It feels like it&#8217;s become a part-time job to work with an incredibly skilled trainer and Ferrier to get him comfortable just being around the tools.<\/p>\n<p>There are moments of great improvement. And then moments that look like a major backslide.<\/p>\n<p>The stories of \u201cwill this ever work out?\u201d Bubble up and feel like shit.<\/p>\n<p>Our Ferrier let us know that in 20 years of doing this work, Norby was the 2nd most challenging horse he&#8217;s ever tried to trim.<\/p>\n<h4><em>Not the prize I&#8217;m hoping for\u2026<\/em><\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"CToWUd a6T\" tabindex=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/ci3.googleusercontent.com\/meips\/ADKq_Naf-mb2sDc2O5g237npXhxpSQhhucVfkcAAvDZ5ZyxJRUVV2zZl3YyZWUEi1U2FKzUtgod4ogkGWMidKbrzEWYeu0c0LHXfS0AYoeSrFPbPdtgVImYsW4BiABY47jJeghLmDvnLsc5LsJh13aAczzgNOCGy235fMxE=s0-d-e1-ft#https:\/\/mcusercontent.com\/5d0a4840c5dd6be7963fa35c3\/images\/da23c530-6b33-fdac-3cfe-72e4d26299f5.gif\" width=\"350\" height=\"621\" data-bit=\"iit\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But then he said, \u201cNorby is giving us this amazing opportunity to all learn and grow and deal with our own shit. If it were easy, none of us would get to become better. And that&#8217;s pretty cool.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He was right.<\/p>\n<p>My victim mindset had taken over and the fear that \u201che&#8217;s never going to get better\u201d was so far from the facts of what was actually happening.<\/p>\n<p>Because here&#8217;s the deal, my friend, and this deal changed my life forever.<\/p>\n<p>With everything in life, there are FACTS and STORIES.<\/p>\n<p>FACTS are non-negotiable truths like\u2026.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Norby has had 6 sessions<\/li>\n<li>He has lifted his legs at some point, each time<\/li>\n<li>It&#8217;s been a minimum of 2 hours each session<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>STORIES are the interpretation of what&#8217;s going on around those facts like\u2026<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This is taking so much longer than anticipated<\/li>\n<li>I don&#8217;t know if it&#8217;s ever going to work out<\/li>\n<li>I&#8217;m afraid we&#8217;re going to leave Arizona before he&#8217;s healed this fear within him and that would really suck<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Now, here&#8217;s the life-changing part\u2026 you get to CHOOSE the STORIES that serve you, instead of choosing the ones that don&#8217;t.<\/h4>\n<p>I can still be present with all the facts and choose the STORY that\u2026<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It&#8217;s taking the exact amount of time that he needs, and we&#8217;re not in a rush<\/li>\n<li>We&#8217;re so fortunate and grateful to have access to a values-aligned Ferrier<\/li>\n<li>I&#8217;m so proud of his moments of progress and will keep finding them and focusing on that truth.<\/li>\n<li>Ollie (our other horse) has completely healed his fear of having his feet done and is in the best place he\u2019s ever been. Actually feeling like good things are happening instead of a mindset that it&#8217;s not happening fast enough?<\/p>\n<h4>Us humans, we do that to ourselves A LOT.<\/h4>\n<p>\ud83d\ude1fYou look at social media, and think <em>\u201cEveryone around me has such a better life. Why can\u2019t I be further along?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\ude29You see people around you getting accolades and think, <em>\u201cI work so hard and am never recognized. What makes them so much more worthy than me?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\ude15You reflect at your goals for the year and wonder, <em>\u201cIs it even possible for me to make this habit stick? Why is it so much easier for other people to succeed?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In these cases, it\u2019s the perfect time to separate the FACTS from the STORIES and then replace the stories that aren\u2019t serving you with ones that are!<\/p>\n<p>Like\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u263a\ufe0f<em>\u201cIt\u2019s so inspiring to see what my friends are making happen! They\u2019re showing me that it\u2019s possible for me too.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\ud83d\ude01 \u201cI\u2019m going to actively apply to what I want to be recognized for. And while I\u2019m at it, I\u2019m going to recognize myself with greater intention. I can do that now!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\ud83d\ude06 \u201cI\u2019m getting so much information on what works for me and what doesn\u2019t. I am figuring out what combination works for me to make my habits stick. It\u2019s fun to be on that journey!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Talk about taking your power back! You can literally choose to change the script so that you\u2019re empowered to take positive action instead of being stuck in old patterns of judgment and victimhood.<\/p>\n<h4>You feel me?<\/h4>\n<p>This has easily been one of the most effective tools in my personal wellbeing toolkit that has been one of the greatest life-changers.
