How to be an Island of Peace in a Sea of Chaos

How to Stay Calm in a Chaotic World: 3 Powerful Steps to Shift Your Energy

Let’s be honest: stress levels are at an all-time high.

The news is overwhelming. Work demands are relentless. Personal responsibilities pile up. And even when you try to relax, your mind keeps racing.

📊 A recent study from the American Psychological Association found that more than 75% of people report feeling overwhelmed by stress.

💡Chronic stress affects your sleep, your immune system, and even your ability to make decisions.

🚨Neuroscience research shows that when you’re stressed, your brain goes into survival mode—shutting down rational thinking and amplifying fear.

And in today’s world, it feels impossible to escape it.

No wonder it can feel like you’re drowning in a sea of chaos.

But what if you didn’t have to be?

What if you could anchor yourself in calm instead of getting swept away by stress?

What if YOU could be an island of peace amidst a sea of chaos?

That’s exactly what I want to show you how to do.

But before that, let me tell you a story…

Have you ever stepped into a room and immediately sensed the energy? Maybe it was heavy and tense, making you want to leave as quickly as possible. Or maybe it was warm and welcoming, making you feel an instant sense of ease.

That’s because energy is contagious.

I learned this in the most powerful way last year while training wild Mustangs.

These horses had never been touched by humans before. They had spent their entire lives running free, relying only on their instincts. And in their world, energy meant everything—they can sense fear, tension, or calm long before anything else.

The first time I stepped into the round pen with my wild Mustang, Norby, I held so much nervous energy.

And guess what? He mirrored it right back. He was jittery, uncertain, and ready to bolt at any second.

But everything changed when I centered myself and became an island of peace and a lighthouse of possibility.

Norby softened. He put his head down and his breathing slowed. He started to trust me. He saw me as safe.

And that’s when it hit me: People work the exact same way.

The energy you bring into a room impacts everyone around you—your family, your coworkers, even strangers you pass on the street. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or burned out, that energy radiates outward.

Let’s be honest: when you’re surrounded by people bitching about life and feeling like nothing good is ever going to happen, it is EASY to get sucked into that sea of chaos. Like attracts like, after all.

But here’s the good news: You can choose to level up and shift your energy and theirs!

Even when the world around you feels out of control you can choose to be a steady, grounding force. You can learn to be a lighthouse of possibility in the face of a storm.

🏝️🌊Here’s how to be an island of peace:

Step 1: Become Aware of Your Energy

Take a deep breath.

Now ask yourself:

  • How am I feeling right now?
  • If someone walked into the room with me, what energy would they sense?
  • Would they feel calm? Would they feel my stress?

No judgment—just awareness.

One of the most important things you can do is start noticing how your energy shifts throughout the day. Are there certain people, places, or situations that cause you to spiral into stress?

Because once you become aware of your energy, you can start to change it.

Step 2: Identify What Throws You Into Chaos

Think back to the last time you felt completely overwhelmed.

  • What caused it?
  • Was it something external, like a stressful conversation or unexpected bad news?
  • Or was it internal—like an anxious thought loop or fear of the unknown?

Write it down.

Most of us go through life reacting to stress without ever pausing to ask: What actually triggers me?

But when you can identify your biggest stress triggers, you start to regain control. You stop getting swept away by chaos and start recognizing patterns.

And from there? You can build a strategy to shift your state.

Step 3: Create Your Energy Reset Button

The next time stress takes over, what’s one thing you can do to instantly reset your energy?

Maybe it’s:

🌿 Stepping outside for fresh air
💗 Placing your hand on your heart and breathing deeply
💬 Repeating an affirmation like “I breathe in peace. I breathe out stress.”
🎶 Listening to a calming song that grounds you

Your energy reset button should be simple and accessible. When chaos starts creeping in, you can press it anywhere.

The goal isn’t to never feel stress (because let’s be real—that’s impossible).

The goal is to notice stress early and shift it before it takes over.

So, what’s one thing that helps you reset? Write it down.
