Why Following Your Heart (Not Your Head) Leads to a More Aligned and Fulfilling Life
When I first began my journey into consciousness and self-awareness, one quote stuck with me more than any other:
“The longest journey you’ll ever go on is from your head to your heart.”
As someone who spent most of my life living in my head—rationalizing everything, planning for every possibility, trying to have control—this felt impossible. I was used to overthinking, following logic, and letting fear drive the bus. That little voice in my head—the ego—was loud, and I listened to it for years.
But that quote kept coming back to me. And over time, I realized something powerful:
When I made decisions from my head, I often felt fear, regret, and lack. But when I listened to my heart, I felt peace, abundance and alignment.
Now, here I am—just one week away from packing up our life in Baltimore to move full-time to the mountains of Idaho.
And this move? It’s the biggest step I’ve ever taken from my head to my heart.
The Pull to the Mountains
My heart has been calling me west for years.
The first time I visited MaryBeth’s family’s ranch over a dozen years ago, I felt something shift inside me. We’d spend a week or two out there at a time, and every moment felt expansive. Grounded. Right.

Then we’d return to the city… and everything felt wrong.
The more time we invested out west, the harder it became to return. The contrast grew sharper, and I noticed how out of alignment I felt in the city. The noise, the pace, the concrete—it just didn’t match what my soul craved anymore.
But still, I stayed in my head:
“This doesn’t make sense; you know nothing about living on a ranch.”
“What about your family and friends?”
“Are you really going to leave everything you know behind?”
My ego tried to protect me by keeping things familiar. That’s what egos do—they try to protect your hell, even if it’s making you miserable. They fear change. They don’t want you to leap.
But my heart knew.
And over time, I listened.
MaryBeth and I created a plan. We made it intentional. We began building a life that made room for that calling.
And now, in just a few days, we’re making it real, for good.
Your Values Live in Your Heart
Here’s something I’ve come to deeply understand:
Your values live in your heart.
When you activate your core values, you’re not just being “productive” or “aligned”—you’re following your heart. You’re giving yourself permission to live with integrity and do what truly matters to you.
Every time I felt peace at the ranch… every time the city felt harder to bear… my values were speaking to me. My heart was speaking to me.

The reason I feel so much more alive and have good energy out west is that it activates my values of Unity with Nature, Growth, Learning, Spirituality and Connection to name a few.
And now, I get to live in alignment with them daily.
A Card That Said It All
During our most recent monthly Manifestation Ceremony inside our Community of Alignment, I pulled an oracle card.
It said: “Take Note of Intuitive Messages.”

I had to smile. Because the truth is, I can’t think of a single time I’ve followed my intuition—or what I now understand is my heart—and regretted it.
Every single time I’ve listened to my heart, it’s led me to:
- A deeper sense of freedom
- A fuller experience of life
- A more grounded, peaceful version of myself
It’s never been easy. But it’s always been worth it when you let your heart lead your journey.
Why Your Heart Knows More Than You Think
You’re not alone if you’ve ever felt torn between your heart and your head. But here’s what changed the game for me:
The science backs it up.
According to the HeartMath Institute, your heart isn’t just a metaphorical guide. It’s a biological powerhouse.
Here’s what their research shows:
- The heart sends more information to the brain than the brain sends to the heart. That means your heart constantly informs your thinking—not the other way around.
- The heart has its own “mini-brain” with over 40,000 neurons. This allows it to learn, remember, and make decisions independently of the brain.
- When you’re in a state of stress or fear, your heart’s rhythm becomes erratic, which sends distorted messages to your brain—making it harder to think clearly or make aligned decisions.
- Positive emotions like love, gratitude, and joy create a harmonious heart rhythm, enhancing mental clarity, creativity, and emotional regulation.
- Your heart can sense intuitive information seconds before your brain can.
So when I say “follow your heart,” I’m not just speaking poetically—I’m sharing a biologically backed strategy for better living.
Your heart knows. It’s always known.
